Hiroshima And Nagasaki
One of the great horrors of war was the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. On August 6, 1945 a B-29 bomber dropped an atom bomb over the city of Hiroshima. The impact of the explosion destroyed most of the city killing around 80,000 people. People who survived would later succumb to the deadly radiation fallout and die later on. Three days after, a second atom bomb would be dropped on Nagasaki killing 40,000 more Japanese citizens.
After the Allies sent a demand for unconditional surrender, but the Japanese refused to surrender and were determined to win. The allies threatened Japan that if they did not surrender unconditionally that they would be faced with ''utter destruction''. On August 15, Emperor Hirohito announced his surrender in World War II.
