V-J Day
On August 14, 1945, Japan unconditionally surrendered, ending WWII. This day became known as Victory over Japan Day, or V-J Day. As a direct result of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the surrender was announced by President Truman in a press conference, resulting in the joy of Americans across the nation. On September 2nd, the Japanese foreign minister Mamoru Shigemitsu met with Douglas MacArthur on the U.S.S. Missouri and signed the unconditional surrender.
